Canada’s experience with Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) has confirmed the fears many once warned about—a rapid moral decline following legalization. What began as a compassionate option for the terminally ill has expanded far beyond its original intent. Today, assisted suicide is the fifth leading cause of death in the country.

MP Tamara Jansen of British Columbia has introduced Bill C-218, a private member’s bill designed to stop the expansion of MAiD to include those suffering from mental illness and depression.

The National House of Prayer, in partnership with ARPA, is encouraging Canadians to go beyond email campaigns and personally meet with their Members of Parliament in their constituency offices. These conversations are vital to express concern over the direction of Canada’s euthanasia policies.

With the bill’s first reading in November and a second in the new year, there is a short window for action. Canada has become a global leader in assisted suicide—a sobering reminder of how far the boundaries have shifted.

“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

Deuteronomy 30:19

Weekly Prayer Points

  • Pray for Canada to turn back to a culture that values and protects life from conception to natural death.

  • Pray for Members of Parliament to support Bill C-218 and stand firm against the expansion of assisted suicide to include mental illness and depression as a sole requirement.

  • Pray for MP Tamara Jansen, that she would have wisdom, courage, and favour as she leads this effort in Parliament.

  • Pray for truth and compassion to guide public conversations about suffering, dignity, and end-of-life care.

  • Pray for those struggling with mental illness or despair that they would find healing, community, and purpose instead of hopelessness.

  • Pray that Canadians would engage their local MPs with grace and conviction, building relationships that open doors for change.

  • Pray that churches across Canada would be moved by compassion to protect and care for the vulnerable and brokenhearted.

““The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

Isaiah 61:1
