Discipline is at the heart of the Christian life. Scripture makes it clear: the Lord disciplines those He loves. It’s not punishment—it’s training, shaping, and guiding us into maturity.

When Jesus gave His final instructions, He didn’t just say, “Go into all the world and save souls.” He said, “Go and make disciples.” A disciple is a disciplined one—someone who learns, obeys, and walks in step with the Master.

That kind of discipline doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through daily devotion, consistent prayer, and quiet time in the secret place. These practices shape believers to not only hear God’s voice but to respond with obedience.

True discipline in our lives begins in humility and shapes the way we pray for others. The lessons God teaches in secret cultivate hearts that are willing to be corrected and refined before asking Him to act in larger matters.

So when we pray for Canada and its leaders, we can’t only ask God to bring His discipline to government, policies, and national life. We must first allow His discipline in our own hearts. Real intercession has weight when it flows from people who themselves are being shaped and humbled by His hand. Scripture reminds us that we are judged by the same measure we use to judge others—so discipline must begin with us.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”

Psalm 139:23-24
