Politics is always changing. Leaders come and go. Parties win and lose. Even strong nations can rise and fall over time. History shows us that nothing in politics lasts forever.
Recently, Bill C-9 passed in the House of Commons, though it still must go through the Senate before it becomes law. Moments like this can feel heavy. They can bring disappointment, concern, and even uncertainty about where things are headed. When decisions go against what we believe is right, it can be hard to process.
But for the Christian, our identity and our peace are not built on these moments. Our faith does not grow when things go our way, and it does not fall apart when they do not. It is not tied to laws, votes, or political outcomes. Those things may affect the world around us, but they do not define who we are. After trying everything we could to stop C-9, we are now at the point where our only option is to turn to Jesus, truly turn to Him.
Scripture reminds us to “ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.” His voice is powerful. His voice is majestic. It is not a quiet or uncertain voice. It is the voice that thunders over the waters, that breaks the cedars, that shakes the wilderness. While human decisions may feel loud in the moment, they are not the loudest voice.
No government can silence the voice of the Church or take away the truth of Scripture. No human authority can undo what God has established. His voice still speaks above every other voice, and it still stands firm no matter what changes around us.
Even when things look uncertain, we are reminded that “the Lord sits enthroned over the flood. The Lord is enthroned as King forever.” What we see is not the full picture. God is still at work, even when we do not fully understand what He is doing. What happens in front of us does not limit His power or His plan.
In the end, nothing that happens in government changes who is truly in control. The Lord gives strength to His people. The Lord blesses His people with peace. He is not reacting to events. He reigns over them. His authority is higher, His purposes are steady, and His rule does not shift.
As we enter Holy Week, we are reminded of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the power of that victory. The same power that raised Him from the dead is alive in us today. Because of that, we do not live in fear or uncertainty, but in hope. Our faith has already been secured by the victory of the Lord Jesus Christ, and no law, no vote, and no outcome can overrule Him.

Pray for the Senate, that they would act with wisdom as a sober second thought, carefully weighing what is before them with discernment and integrity.
Pray that the church would experience calm and hope even when this news of C-9 can feel overwhelming or discouraging.
Pray that the church would continue to care for neighbours, families, and communities faithfully, especially in light of this bill passing. Pray that we would not shrink back from preaching the good news of the gospel.
Pray for strength for the Church, that we would keep our eyes on our Sovereign God knowing that lasting hope and change come from Him.
Pray that this moment would ignite the Church to boldly share the gospel, and that God would bring exponential growth, turning what the enemy intends for harm into a demonstration of His sovereignty.
