Weekly Prayer Points
Canada is living through a season of deep uncertainty. Proposed legislation such as Bill C-9 raises concerns about the Bible itself being labeled as hate speech. The expansion of MAID to include those struggling with mental illness challenges our understanding of the sanctity of life. Our Prime Minister’s endorsement of a “New World Order,” growing alignment with China that many Canadians find troubling, ongoing economic instability with no clear relief in sight, and antisemitism reaching historic highs all contribute to a national atmosphere of tension and unrest. It is easy, in such a moment, for fear to take root in our hearts.
Yet Scripture reminds us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). While the chaos around us is real, it does not have the final word. What matters most in times like these is not merely what we see or hear in the news, but whether we know the voice of the Lord.
Psalm 29 speaks powerfully to our moment. It describes the voice of the Lord as being “over the waters,” thundering with authority, breaking cedars, shaking wildernesses, and ruling over every force of chaos. This is not a fragile or uncertain voice. It is the sovereign voice of God, unthreatened by nations, economies, or cultural upheaval. To know this voice is to be anchored when everything else feels unstable.
Psalm 29 concludes with a promise we desperately need today: “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace” (Psalm 29:11). This peace is not denial, nor is it escape. It is the settled confidence that comes from belonging to Him, listening to His voice, and obeying His word. As fear presses in from every side, now more than ever we must lean in to hear the Lord clearly. His voice still rules over the storm, and it still brings peace to those who are His.
Pray for wisdom and discernment for Canada’s leaders, that they would govern with justice, righteousness, and respect for God’s truth.
Pray for the Church to discern God’s heart in the debates over MAID, and to act as His hands and feet by caring for the vulnerable, advocating for life, and showing compassion to those struggling with mental illness.
Pray for the Church to hear God’s guidance in times of economic uncertainty, and to bring practical help, encouragement, and hope to families and communities facing financial hardship.
Pray for the Church to recognize God’s perspective over government decisions, calling out unrighteousness with humility, and demonstrating His love and justice through prayer, service, and righteous influence.
Pray for all believers to remain sensitive to the Lord’s voice, discerning His will, and walking in obedience so the Church can reflect Christ’s love and truth in every area of societal challenge.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
