God is at work on Parliament Hill!

Saturday, August 1, 2026

If you pray for government, it can be easy to get discouraged over legislation that passed in this most recent parliamentary session. If we only read the headlines, it can feel like the Kingdom of God is losing ground in Canada.

But Jesus once said, “My Father is always working” (John 5:17, NLT), and that’s still the case today. We encourage you to look for what God is doing - in your family, your local church, your community, and yes, even our government - and give thanks for what He’s already done, praying that God would continue to move in those ways. If we’re going to follow Jesus’ example and do what the Father is doing (John 5:19), then we need to perceive what He’s up to.

Don’t be discouraged! Our Father is always working, and He’s working in Canada, even today.

"do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

Philippians 4:6

Watch the podcast video Brad mentioned in the weekly video above.

Join Brad as he traces the picture Scripture paints of antisemitism throughout history, then looks at specific ways the Church has participated in it across the centuries, and considers how understanding this past should shape how we reach out to the Jewish community today.

NHOP Prayer Meetings

Our regular prayer meetings will pause over the summer months, but we encourage everyone to continue seeking God in prayer individually and with others. We will resume our prayer gatherings on August 18 and 19, and look forward to praying together again.

Weekly Prayer Points

  • Spend time in thanksgiving, thanking for God for what He’s doing in your family, your church, your community, and in Canada.

  • Pray that the church would demonstrate a love for life in Canada; thank God for the committee’s recommendation to eliminate the expansion of MAiD and for the exposure of reckless practices in BC, pray that the tide of public opinion in Canada would overwhelmingly prioritize life (Deut. 30:19).

  • Continue to pray that prayer would grow in the church across Canada (Is. 56:7; Mal. 1:11).

  • Pray regarding the wildfires, especially in Northern Ontario. Pray for rain, for grace and endurance for emergency personnel, and for people who have been displaced or are at risk of displacement.

  • Pray for peace in the Middle East, specifically in Iran and Israel. Pray for the church in these places to have boldness and open doors to preach the gospel (Acts 4:29-31; Col. 4:3-4).

  • Pray for our elected officials this summer. Pray for Christians in every riding to engage with - and bless - their members of parliament while they are at home. Pray that MP’s with families will have rich quality time with their families that strengthen their bonds over the summer.

  • Continue to pray for Canada’s relationships with allies, including the US and Israel.

  • Continue to pray for Jewish communities in Canada in the face of rising antisemitism.
