Prayer Stream — Nov 30, 2024

Saturday, November 30, 2024

Faith without action is lip service without real service. Like they say in Alberta, "All hat and no cattle." James 2:14-17 reminds us that faith must move beyond words and beliefs into deeds that reflect God's love. If we claim faith but turn a blind eye to those in need, our faith is hollow, no better than "fake news." The Passion Translation says, "faith that doesn't involve action is phony." Genuine faith is alive, demonstrated through kindness, compassion, and the willingness to serve others. It’s not about earning salvation but showing that our faith has real roots and bears good fruit.

"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."

James 2:14-17

Apostolic Prayer

"Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you. Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ."

2 Thessalonians 3:1-5

Prayer Points

Violence in Montreal last weekend!

During the Montreal protests last weekend of over 85,000 rioters, violent incidents included the setting of cars and effigies on fire, smashing windows, launching fireworks at police, and the use of smoke bombs. Among the chants were "Vive l'Intifada" (Long live the intifada), expressing solidarity with militant, anti-Israel, anti-Western, terrorist movements. Some rhetoric escalated to antisemitic language, with protesters shouting, “The final solution is coming your way,” a direct reference to the Holocaust and the Nazi plan for the genocide of the Jewish people. This cannot continue in our Canada.

  • Pray for cities like Montreal and Toronto, where recent incidents have highlighted the growing challenges to public order and safety. Pray for wisdom and courage to guide leaders to rebuild security and rule of law.

  • Pray for the church, that Christians would learn to engage with the Jewish community at a deeper and more meaningful level. They need to know that we support them.

  • Pray that we would not remain indifferent to the Jewish community, especially given the rise of antisemitism in our nation. Pray that we be like David, who, with courage and conviction, did not stand by while the giant of injustice threatened God's people. Pray that we would stand with Jewish communities, defending them against hatred and standing for righteousness.

"Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."

Psalm 121:4
