This week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, supported by Governor General Mary Simon, prorogued Parliament until March 24 and announced plans to resign after the Liberal Party selects a new leader. The timing of the next federal election is uncertain, though a spring vote is speculated. The Conservatives are prepared for a non-confidence vote, and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh stated he is prepared to vote against the government. However, the political landscape remains fluid, and the outcome is far from predictable.
Prayer is undeniably essential. Admittedly, praying for Prime Minister Trudeau has not always been easy for many of us. It’s often easier to complain than to pray, but our calling is to intercede regardless of personal feelings or challenges.
Life and death are in the power of the tongue. James reminds us that blessing and cursing should not come from the same mouth. Our prayers must align with the Father’s will, not our personal opinions. As James also says, "the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God."
When praying for government, we have learned the importance of grounding our prayers in the principles of the Sermon on the Mount. We are called to pray from hearts of humility, mercy, and purity, as Jesus taught. He emphasizes loving our enemies and treating others as we would want to be treated, providing the perfect foundation for intercession.
Let us hold these principles close as we pray for the current government and the incoming Prime Minister, regardless of party affiliation.
Remember, every day is the national day of prayer!

FYI, the government's announcement to extend the deadline for 2024 donations to February 28, 2025, has been impacted by the prorogation of Parliament, creating some uncertainty about its implementation.

"May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Canada's current political situation
Two men have filed an unprecedented legal challenge against Trudeau's request to prorogue Parliament until March 24, arguing it was made solely to serve the interests of the Liberal Party. The case faces a high legal bar, but if successful, Parliament could reconvene as early as January 27, potentially leading to a non-confidence vote for the Liberals during their leadership race.
Pray for wisdom and discernment to guide the courts in their decision-making, as they consider the validity of this request.
Canada needs strong leadership now.
Pray for the provincial premiers, that God would grant them clarity, strength, and discernment as they navigate their responsibilities.
Pray for wisdom and strength of leadership and boldness for the current administration to lead them through their dealings with Donald Trump.
Pray that both government leaders would have the ability to set aside personal pride and seek the good of the people they serve.
Although the timing is unclear, a federal election is imminent. We have been encouraging you to pray regarding candidate selections for over a year. Thank you for your faithfulness.
Continue to pray for the upcoming candidate selections in many ridings across our nation.
"He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning."
