Prayer Stream — Feb 08, 2025

Saturday, February 8, 2025

Trump’s tariffs continue to loom over Canada. While he has agreed to a 30-day delay, negotiations remain uncertain, causing concern as our economy faces challenges. Adding to the tension, he persists in suggesting Canada could become the 51st state. As a skilled negotiator, this may be his tactic to unsettle Canada's leaders before serious discussions start—but it only intensifies anxiety and frustration among Canadians.

Adding to the uncertainty, Canada appears to have a rudderless government. With Parliament in prorogation, the federal government is in a caretaker-like phase, operating with limited authority. Political uncertainty and leadership instability only deepen the concerns for Canadians.

No political threat compares to Canada’s greatest danger—a prayerless church. Jesus said, "My house shall be a house of prayer." As watchmen, we are called to stay awake, vigilant, and steadfast in prayer—not just during times of crisis, but every day. Prayer is not merely a response to uncertainty, but a proactive, daily practice that strengthens us and aligns our hearts with God’s will. Our encouragement here is not only to pray in times of trouble but to make prayer a central part of our lives, trusting that God hears and responds to the prayers of His people.

Remember, every day is the national day of prayer!

"May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Romans 15:5-6

Apostolic Prayer

"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God."

Philippians 1:9-11

Prayer Points

"My house shall be a house of Prayer!"

Scripture mentions twice that God's house will be a house of prayer for all nations. In Isaiah 56, the Lord invites everyone—including outsiders and the disqualified—into His house of prayer. Jesus echoes this in the Gospel, confronting merchants in the Gentile court. In both cases, He challenges obstacles that hinder prayer. What hinders us from being a house of prayer?

  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to stir pastors and leaders to disciple a people of prayer.

  • Pray that pastors would unite locally and regionally to cultivate a culture of prayer in their cities.

  • Pray for deep humility in the Church, that we may truly live as a 2 Chronicles 7:14 people—humbly seeking His face and turning from the sin of prayerlessness.

  • Pray that eldership teams and deacon boards receive a revelation of the vital importance of being a people of prayer.

  • Pray for accountability among pastors and leaders, encouraging one another to a higher devotion in the Word and prayer. Pray for strong, lasting friendships among area pastors, uniting them to proclaim with one voice that Jesus is Lord.

  • Pray for the Church to keep our eyes fixed on Him, to do what He is doing, and to always listen so we can speak what He is saying.

"My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God."

Psalm 84:2

"Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in you all day long."

Psalm 25:4-5
