2021 Federal Election and Canopy of Prayer

Update - September 20, 2021

Today is Election Day

We pray for those who will win their seats today that you would open their eyes to see Your goodness, Your Glory and Your Holiness. We pray that they would become aware of their own inadequacies and would turn to You for grace, wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

“And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

Job 28:28

The hearts of our leaders are in God's hands. We pray that He would turn them to a place where righteousness reigns in our land.

Proverbs 21:1

Update - September 17, 2021

Barb Anderson is from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a regular contributor to our NHOP prayer meetings.

We repent for the many atrocities that have slipped into society on our watch because of our complacency and disconnection. Thank you Father for awakening leaders, Pastors and the Church with your clarion call. May we remember whose we are.

"Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law."

Proverbs 29:18

Update - September 13, 2021

Pray for righteous candidates that they would finish strong. Pray for a strengthening of their teams. May they be refreshed by Holy Spirit as we near the end of this race.

"But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

Isaiah 40:31

The following is an excellent talk by Faytene Grasseschi of 4myCANADA on 'Answering The Question How Do I Vote In This Election?' It is full of wisdom on strategic voting giving some practical advice.

Update - September 11, 2021

Brad Fidler is the Senior Pastor of Niagara Community Church and a member of the Board of Directors for NHOP.

"God, the Master, the Holy of Israel, has this solemn counsel: Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me - The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do”

Isaiah 30:15, MSG

As we approach this election and engage with our communities and the political sphere, pray that the church:

  1. Would not react to the culture around her in fear and anxiety, or look to a political party or leader to “fix” everything

  2. Would prioritize encountering God in the secret place (settling down in complete dependence on Him)

  3. Would find herself rooted & grounded in the love of God, and clothed in the righteousness, peace and joy of the Holy Spirit in all her interactions

Update - September 10, 2021

Chapter six of Rob Parker's book, 'We have a Voice, "Empowering the next generation."

  1. Pray for creative ways for churches and Christian ministries to encourage and involve Canadian youth become politically informed.

  2. Pray that God would open doors of opportunity to involve our youth in volunteering with local politicians.

  3. Pray that our youth's passion for social justice would be in alignment with God's heart for their city/region.

  4. Pray for the politicians of tomorrow, that righteousness sown today will yield a great and fruitful harvest for our nation's future.

Update - September 9, 2021

We thank God for all the prayer going up across Canada for this election. We pray for Pastors and leaders to encourage their congregations to become more informed and engaged.

Yesterday, we posted that Conversion Therapy Ban was not covered on the PPC Platform. However, in a press release on September 4, 2021, Maxime Bernier did address it. You can find it in the news section of the PPC website. We have posted the screen shot in today's email as we missed this yesterday.

If you are looking for information on a party's platform regarding specific issues but are unable to find it, we recommend calling your candidate to see where they stand.

Update - September 8, 2021

It is so important to do your homework. What will you find in each party platform? We must do our due diligence to do the research and to pray so our votes will be from a place of wisdom. The following screenshots specifically speak about each of these party's stand on the Conversion Therapy ban. Clicking on them will take you to their platforms. Conversion Therapy ban was not covered on the PPC or Bloc Platforms. We recommend you call your candidate to see where they stand. Click on the PPC and Bloc logo for a link to their platforms.

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves."

Matthew 10:16

Update - September 7, 2021

Canopy of Prayer has been brewing at NHOP for quite some time now. More than just an Ottawa centred ministry, the vision has always been to see the heart of the Nation turn to God. Having boots on the ground at Parliament Hill is very necessary and essential. Building relationships with Members of Parliament and bringing in teams to pray for and to serve these members remains an integral part of the National House of Prayer. In this present season, it is time to enlarge the borders of our tent.

“Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.”

Isaiah 54:2

When Marilyn and I became involved with our Member of Parliament, it gave us the opportunity to be engaged and informed with the member and the riding. We were then able to pray informed, strategic prayers in our private prayer times. Our hope is to see this kind of responsive prayer involvement right across the nation with synergetic prayer teams.

"How could one have chased a thousand, and two have put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had given them up?"

Deuteronomy 32:30

Ultimately, the goal for every team is to see The Kingdom of God increase in their ridings. Our utmost desire is to see Salvation break out and the purposes of God accomplished in each respective community.

We envision designated prayer teams for each of the 338 ridings across the country. While this is being launched during a Federal Election, it is not meant to be an election only project but rather an ongoing prayer endeavour. Our experience has shown that it is best to get ahead of the issues in prayer rather than react to issues. This is a long-term assignment and will require time to grow. Prayer teams will be focused on the ridings where they live aiming their attention on their communities. Rather than having prayers solely centred on the federal government and their members of parliament, teams will pray for all levels of government and concerns in their locality.

Instead of working from a crisis management model, where we pray when issues come up, we want to pray from a place of service where we maintain prayers for the purposes of God on an ongoing basis. Our heart is to see each riding transformed from Glory to Glory.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Romans 12:1

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

2 Corinthians 3:18

Chris Byberg

Executive Director NHOP

Urgent Election Update

The Liberals just released their platform. We want to highlight one point on their platform. The following is a direct quote found under the section "Protecting your Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights."

"A re-elected Liberal government will no longer provide charity status to anti-abortion organizations (for example, Crisis Pregnancy Centres) that provide dishonest counseling to women about their rights and about the options available to them at all stages of the pregnancy."

Update - August 27, 2021

Update - August 25, 2021

Pray for media. Thank you Lord for those righteous voices still in our media. Pray that the body of Christ will do its due diligence when listening to media - that they would research to ensure they are listening to truth.

Update - August 24, 2021

  1. Pray for government leaders who are full of wisdom and have characters of humility, courage, honesty and integrity.

  2. Pray that Canada will continue to see Christians making a positive contribution as politicians in our nation.

"Your people will volunteer freely on the day of Your power;"

Psalm 110:3

Update - August 21, 2021

Pray that the Church would make voting decisions from a place of wisdom from God and not our of fear of circumstances.

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding."

Psalm 111:10

Update - August 20, 2021

Chapter one of Rob Parker's book, 'We have a Voice' asks the question, "Should Christians Vote?"

"Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  1. Pray that Christian leaders will join this call to exhort believers to register their voice through voting.

  2. That our voting would be responsible and informed.

  3. Pray that we as Christians will understand the call of the Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19)

  4. That a call of prayer will be raised intergenerationally across our land and that the Church of today will be even a stronger Church of tomorrow.

Update - August 19, 2021

Pray for the readiness of the church. Pray that Pastors would call on their congregations to engage society and bring influence for His Kingdom.

" I will look with favour on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me. No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes."

Psalm 101: 6.7

Update - August 18, 2021

Pray that the body of Christ will be able to discern between righteous candidates and partisan politics. Pray that the political spirit will be exposed. Pray that the church would find God’s desire and not just our opinions. Pray that Christians would seek Godly guidance regarding who to vote for. It is God who gives wisdom and navigation during the election. On our own, we can be deceived by charisma, charm or even election platforms.

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death."

Proverbs 16:25

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Proverbs 2:6

Update - August 17, 2021

Pray that the media will remain objective and not fall under the influence of partisan preferences. Pray that any bias will be replaced by fairness.

Psalm 43:3

"In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds."

Psalm 45:4

Update - August 16, 2021

Pray that the Body of Christ will engage during the election. It is important for them to become familiar with the issues and know the difference between righteous and unrighteous perspectives. God is in control, but that does not mean we should do nothing to further His will.

“He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.”

Exodus 18:25(NIV)

Let there be a clarion call to extensive prayer, heard throughout the Church in Canada for this election.

"I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;"

Update - August 8, 2021

There has been much speculation and discussion over these past couple of months

about a possible election call. Most of those whom I’ve approached on this subject are

quite certain that there will be an election call by mid-August. In the event that this

happens, our hopes at the National House of Prayer is that Canadian Christians will not

only vote, but will vote intelligently.

  1. Readiness for Christians to see the importance of engaging and coming out and voting at this critical time. Pray that people will vote from a place of being informed of what individual candidates believe and stand for.

  2. As nominations are still being held, prayer for the best possible candidates to represent your riding. Candidates who exhibit strong attributes of integrity and truthfulness.

  3. That churches / pastors would encourage their congregations to be engaged.

  4. For righteous candidates all across Canada to rise up with wisdom and strategy to take their place as leaders in our nation. Pray that God would bring them teams who know how to navigate the election process from nomination to Election Day.

2021 Federal Election and Canopy of Prayer

While the federal government insist that they will not be calling an early fall election, the major parties appear to be in full pre-election mode as their leaders fan out across the country to meet voters. Liberal party staffers have been told to ensure their vacations are over and they're back in Ottawa by Aug. 9. Some sources say that the PM is waiting for the Nova Scotia Provincial election to end on August 17th before calling a federal election.

To find out who is running in your riding, you can go to the major parties' websites. For the Conservative party, go to Team, then EDA. For Liberal party, go to your Riding. For the People's party, look under candidates. The NDP, Bloc Quebecois and the Green Party have options to email them for information.

Many ridings have not yet selected candidates. In order to be a part of the candidate selection process, you will need to be a member. Contact your Electoral District Associations to find out who the candidates for nomination are and when the nomination selection will take place. Everyone with an up to date membership will be able to participate.

Now is a good time to become engaged with your candidates as they will need volunteers and prayer support. Reach out to candidates to see how you can help to get them nominated. Once affirmed, you can volunteer to help during the campaign and beyond.

Our vision at National House of Prayer is to see a Canopy of Prayer over our nation. We are in the process of building prayer teams. Our goal is to have a prayer team for every riding in the country. We want these teams to be ongoing. This is not just for the election. These ridings will need continuous prayer. Details on how to sign up to be part of a team will be coming soon. Watch our website and our newsletters.

  1. Pray for righteous candidates all across Canada to rise up with wisdom and strategy to take their place as leaders in our nation. Pray that God would bring them teams who know how to navigate the election process from nomination to Election Day.

  2. Pray for families of candidates that there would be peace and unity in their households so they will be able to remain focused on the race.

"For although we live in the natural realm, we don’t wage a military campaign employing human weapons, using manipulation to achieve our aims. Instead, our spiritual weapons are energized with divine power to effectively dismantle the defenses behind which people hide. We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One. Since we are armed with such dynamic weaponry, we stand ready to punish any trace of rebellion, as soon as you choose complete obedience."

2 Corinthians 10:3-4-6 TPT
