Hi everybody. Happy summer. Hope you're enjoying the nice weather, time with friends and family and so on. Uh obviously, National House of Prayer, part of what we do is we pray for things that are happening with government. First Timothy 2, pray all kinds of prayers for everybody, especially for leaders and those in authority, that we may lead peaceful and godly lives. And if you remember at the end of it, it says this thing of This is good and pleasing the sight of God our savior who desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. We pray for what's happening in government cuz God desires that all men, including them, men and women, of course,
including them, that they'd be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Uh government is not in session right now. They're off for the summer break. They're in your constituencies working where you live. And so, with government not being in session right now, we wanted to take a look at things we've been praying for in this last session of Parliament, >> [snorts] >> uh that where God has actually been answering. Um as a point of encouragement for us and to keep going. Uh and I want to cover this because the thing that's gotten most of the attention in the Chris in the Christian world is Bill C-9, which we know has become law, uh the hate speech bill, and
there's been a lot of concern and consternation over that. But I want to highlight some wins. And because again, that hasn't been getting a lot of attention from what I've been hearing anyways. And so, want to do this because the Bible tells us it's important for us to look up. You know, Philippians 4:8, Paul says, "Think about whatever's true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, etc. Think about things that are good, not just things that are bad. Not things that are only discouraging." In Colossians 3, he tells us, "Set your mind on things above, where Christ is seated." And for me, I think that includes what God is doing. Set your mind on the things that God is doing,
not just things you see in the headlines. And so, couple things for you to to think about and hopefully be encouraged by. Number one, you're going to think I'm crazy for saying this, but Bill C-9 itself, it's not as bad as we've heard, okay? And I want to encourage you, instead of unpacking it all here, Chris and I did a podcast on this a couple weeks ago. Uh on our YouTube channel, you can find it. It's called Bill C-9, How Bad Is It? And I would encourage you to watch that and see we look through wording taken right from the legislation, what's in the bill, what's not in the bill. And get a clear perspective on what's actually in law right now. And again, there's
again, you might think I'm crazy for saying this. There's actually a couple points in there that are actually worth celebrating. And so, go ahead and watch that. That's that might change some of your perspective a little bit. But that's first one. Second one, this is a big one, okay? MAID, medical assistance in dying. I didn't hear many people comment on this because all the attention was on Bill C-9, but we got a major win when it comes to euthanasia at the end of the session of Parliament here. The parliamentary committee that was looking into this expansion, uh upcoming expansion of MAID to those whose sole underlying medical condition was mental illness, that was due to happen in March
of '27, I believe. And that's been in law for about 5 years. The expansion has just kept getting punted down the road a little bit. Well, big thing happened. The committee, which is mostly liberal, the committee made a recommendation to the government to permanently end that expansion to medical mental illness as a sole underlying medical condition. Basically, they said we should not do that expansion, just get rid of it altogether. That's a huge victory because that was going to be a very radical expansion in our euthanasia program. Um imagine someone who's just feeling depressed, which not to belittle that, that can be a very difficult thing. But if all there is is depression,
someone going to a doctor and requesting euthanasia, that's a scary expansion. We should be working to restore and build hope in people, to help them get to a place where they can not only cope, but thrive in life again. That should be our emphasis and our focus. We should be working towards life, not accommodating death. And that's so that's a huge victory that this committee's committee recommended to government, we should not move forward with that expansion. So that's a big win. We should be celebrating that. Now, having said that, there's still lots of problems. Uh there's it's still very widely available. If you've been seeing in the news in British Columbia, it's becoming
uh it's kind of coming out in the open that some of the safeguards that are in place to protect life have actually been treated more like inconvenient obstacles. And so there's a lot of a lot of work that needs to be done there still, but that was a huge victory that we saw on MAID. So be mindful of that. And the third thing I would say is you know, again, we pray for government, those in authority because this pleases God who desires all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Well, there's a parliamentary prayer meeting that happens on Wednesday mornings when Parliament is in session. It's only for elected officials and from what we hear, it's the largest it's ever been.
That's a huge that's a huge point of praise. And I would also add to that, we'd probably be surprised if we understood the number of Christian staffers who are working on the hill. We've got a number of believers in the House of Commons, a number working in the offices of of elected officials. God is up to something on Parliament Hill. It's not been abandoned to darkness as some might suggest. It's God is at work. And so I just want to encourage you. Be mindful of that. Be encouraged by that. Let's look up. Let's be aware of what the Father is doing and what this Father is saying like Jesus did. Let's be mindful of what he's up to and keep praying in faith. And I just
want to leave you with two passages of scripture. Philippians 4:6. Don't be anxious about anything. But in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving make your requests known to God. Don't be stuck in anxiety over what's in the headlines. But in everything with prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving make your requests known to God. Keep praying for Canada and let your prayers be filled with Thanksgiving. And one point of Thanksgiving is what God's already doing. What he's already up to now. And James 1:6. Ask in faith without doubting. God is good. He's a rewarder of those who seek him. Let's be mindful of what he's up to. Let's ask in faith without doubting.
