Happy New Year!

As we step into this year, we want to share what we believe is the word to the church: Pursuit.

I remember how at the start of each new year I would look to those we considered modern-day prophets, hoping they would speak a word that would stir excitement or bring comfort. Maybe I was searching for hope because what I saw in our culture, in our government, and even within my own family was not what I longed to see. Maybe I did not yet trust that I could hear His voice for myself. I want you to know that you can know His voice.

To choose to pursue Him is more than a New Year’s resolution. It is a lifelong posture. Choosing relationship and intimacy with God is not passive. It is intentional. Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment” (Matt 22:37-38). Each of us is invited to move toward Him with our whole hearts, stepping into this relationship day by day.

Drawing near to God takes time and presence. Like the lover in Song of Solomon, we linger with Him, praying, reading His Word, sitting in stillness, until we not only recognize His voice but begin to delight in it. True intimacy cannot be rushed. There are no shortcuts to the heart. Just as love in Song of Solomon grows in tender, close moments, our closeness with God unfolds step by step. As we listen and respond in love, we grow in confidence in Him, a confidence that remains steady no matter what is happening around us. And then we can say with assurance, “My beloved is mine, and I am His” (2:16, 6:3).

I invite you to step into this pursuit. Lean in closer; linger with Him and listen for His voice.
