On Tuesday October 3rd, Liberal MP Greg Fergus replaced Anthony Rota as the new Speaker. Mr. Fergus is the first black Canadian to become Speaker. Prime Minister Trudeau commented following the election, “This should be inspiring for all Canadians.”
Fergus said that every MP has more in common than they would want to admit and that he would lead firmly, thoughtfully, and collaboratively.
- Pray that Mr. Fergus would not allow self-promotion to guide him.
- Pray that he would have a servant’s heart choosing to show genuine humility amongst his peers.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”
Philippians 2:3
- Pray that he would have a greater concern for Canadians than for partisan politics.
- Pray that he would have courage to carry out his duties in the House with fairness and integrity and that he would have wisdom to bring real collaboration to the House of Commons.
“Be of good courage, and let us be courageous for our people, and for the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good to him.”
