Vision

Our desire at the National House of Prayer is to mobilize informed, focused, and sustained prayer for Canada and its leaders.

How we do this

We attempt to do this by having an on-going presence of praying people in the halls of our Federal Government.  Intercesssors attend the daily Question Period, sit in Senate sessions, position themselves in Committee meetings and make appointments with individual Parliamentarians.  We intercede in the official Prayer Chapel, prayer-walk the grounds of Parliament Hill, visit the Supreme Court, and the Governor General's residence and pray with Christians groups from the many different departments of national Government.

We also provide training in intercessory prayer for short-term prayer teams and long-term residents at our NHOP centre, and travel throughout Canada teaching our weekend Schools of Prayer, or week-long National Schools of Intercession.  Visiting teams are hosted for a week at a time at our very gracious facilities, just minutes east of Parliament Hill, while others sense the call to join our community for six month  or one year intensive experiences.

Because we believe in "informed intercession" we research and stay up-to-date with the current issues facing our leaders, and then provide this insight to thousands of intercessors through our regular email newsletters.  Networking with the many prayer movements in Canada is one of our greatest joys as we see coordinated prayer being released through city-wide prayer movements, new Provincial Houses of Prayer, and emerging leaders.

Who are we?

The National House of Prayer is run by a team of dedicated workers led by Rob and Fran Parker. Meet the Team.

Why Ottawa?

Ottawa is Canada's capital city. Every decision made in Ottawa, affects every region of the country.

Ottawa is the spiritual gateway to the rest of the nation. What comes through a gate has influence over what the gate was designed to guard. In biblical times the gateway was the place the city's elders met to make decisions and to settle disputes. Decisions made had an effect upon the life and destiny of those under the authority of the elders. Many of us tend to think of our government only in critical ways. We need to repent of these attitudes and start holding up those in leadership through our prayers. By establishing a the National House of Prayer in Ottawa, we will be able to pray, as Graham Kendrick says, "On site with insight." (see Isaiah 63: 6, 7; 60:11)
How to pray for Government

History

Rob Parker led a team of intercessors who prayer-walked from Calgary to Ottawa in the Spring of 2000. This initiative was called Link Canada and the purpose was to elevate prayer for our nation and to call the Church to repentance that God might bring His healing to our land.

"September 11th, 2001 brought a sense of urgency to this vision." says Rob. "After seeing 100,000 Canadians gather on Parliament Hill  in a show of support for our neighbors south of us, the prayers offered that day were not allowed to include the name of "God" or "His Son, Jesus Christ."

"Also, I became aware that chaplains in our Armed Forces were restricted from using "God or 'Jesus' in any of their public addresses. This caused me to cry out to God that Canada had become a "Godless Nation" and asked Him to intervene."

"The next morning God directed me to 1 Timothy 2:1-3:
I urge, then, first of all. that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone: for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour.

" In contrast , Canada was becoming godless. This reminded me of a something said by David Demian, Director of Watchmen for the Nations -
'You get the government you pray for.'

"The key to restore godliness in our land is to pray for all those in authority, and so we began 'walking out' the process of establishing a Prayer House for our nation."
